Expanding gate valve also called expanding through conduit gate valve also API 6D designed. Both of the slab and expanding gate valve through conduit type. The difference from the slab gate valve is the valve gate has the feature of mechanically sealing disc. When the valves fully closed or open the disc segments are expanding for positive tight close on each seat. The segments retract from the seats before it fully closed or open position, the retraction will protect the sealing surface by less friction.
The expand gate valve is through conduit full bore for easy pigging, the gate is bi-directional perfect sealing. The body has the double block and bleeds system; sealant injection in stem and seats. The valve sealing design can do in soft and hard metal sealing by different service condition. It was applied a lot in the oil and gas product industry.
